I have been purchasing the two rolls set for the ATB Quarters since the mint started the series. What do you think of this idea? Good idea or bad idea.

For collecting? A fine idea, if that's what you like. For investing? I don't think you're going to see any profits from it, but it's not a lot of money either, so no biggie.

ghostrider, I also bought them just like you. Then the mint hiked the price in 2011. Holy Cow! Their only a clad coin. The banks around me do not get them in rolls and they seem to be hard to find in circulation. My saving grace is getting them in the annual mint set release which are silver. I still like the different designs.

Yea I'm doing the same thing, I was getting 100 bags of both mints with a two roll set. But when they raised the price I said the heck with the 4 bags of 100. Plus I needed the money for my 25 Anv Sets. lol But I haven't restarted the bags, I'm only getting the 2 roll sets now. I wanted to have a complete roll set of every state with both mints, but looks like i'll have to settle for a mix of opened and unopened rolls. I guess I can still sell off the 100 bags and use profits to purchase replacement rolls that aren't opened. But I'd have to sell them individually. Which was my plan all along but many years from now. I didn't fully grasp the investment my original order would cost me when alls said and done. But now that I do I really feel my money's better spent somewhere else. There going to do just what the State Quarters are doing. At least IMO. But I do love having more variety's and errors to search through. Just can't wait for a full write up on them to be done. Heres to many more years. Cause I'll try my best to stick with the rolls to the end. But now that the mints thinking about releasing two limited mintage sets a year for SAE's I might have to do away with the rolls. But if you really enjoy the series keep up with them. If your moneys tight as mine is, weigh your options and think about what this investment could buy you. At the end of the year for 5 two roll sets of each years release, its roughly costing almost $200 if you add $5 for each shipment. One good thing is you'll always have $100 in quarters each year in case of emergencies. lol

Too bad you don't have some extra bank-wrapped rolls, because I have many duplicates of some and zero of others, and I was looking for someone to make trades with...
If you absolutely have to buy, I could help there too, with some mint-marks.
Send me a message if you are interested.

Quote: I do love having more variety's and errors to search through. Are there any known variety's or errors for the ATB's? Where are the circulated ones? How many people have found all of them? I opted out of the bags, uncirculated coins clinking in a bag is not my favorite sound (the sound of massive bagmarking!) With the ATBs, I am buying the carded 3-coin sets, not from the Mint @ $14.95 per, but from e-Bay at around $6-$7 per card, and also the occasional BWR from the brilliant "circulating" coin in 2010 run, not the Mint wrapped rolls. The challenge is to keep them pristine as bright as the day they were minted. The alloy of the sandwich coins seems to be more copper at the surface than earlier years, so they tone much quicker, and also uglier when they do. Haven't decided yet whether to bust open the BWR and to encapsulate each coin in an Air-Tite or not.

I just think the Mint is selling the 2 quarter roll set for too much money. $32.95 plus $4.95 shipping is a lot for $20 worth of quarters. Dealers might be a little cheaper, if you look around. Especially if you can buy multiple pairs for the same shipping cost as a single pair. Quote: Haven't decided yet whether to bust open the BWR and to encapsulate each coin in an Air-Tite or not. You could store the quarters in plastic containers. That helps preserve them much better than a paper roll. It would be very expensive to put most of the roll of quarters in Air-Tite holders though.

Good idea, thanks! Even though these are original BWRs, the sulfur and wax in the paper overwrap is probably not good for long term storage. I might compromise and store the bulk of the roll inside a CoinSafe tube, and encapsulate 2-3 of the nicest coins from the roll. The CuNi alloy is a lot more unstable than I realized; more thought is needed to care for these coins to prevent spotted and unsightly toning than the 90% silver versions, and these "common" clad coins are made in the millions! I can definitely see why certain clad dates are so expensive as condition rarities. These are just not saved properly in adequate numbers.

I'm still buying the two roll sets from the mint. In my area there are hardly any quarters post 2008. I hope to search them one day for gems and make sets. I am happy they are lowering the price this year. I also like to trade with other CCF members to try and build sets in the mean time.

Down here in SW FL for some reason I cannot find any circulating ATB Quarters at all. This is really surprising given that we are already two years into the series. It's either the banks that I am using or the fact that is a distribution void in this area. That's why I am purchasing from the mint, not that I am thrilled with the mint pricing. I really like the look of these coins moreso than the State Quarters. IMHO this series is showing more artistic style that the previous State Quarters. I kind of wish that they'd do something like this in the half dollars given that there is more space on a half than on a quarter. My collection of the ATB is really looking good. My wife really likes them too.

You haven't seen any? I've had several Gettysburg in change in SWFL. I'm just getting the ones for my albums from mint sets.
