Welcome, pbarradas!
From what I see it is from Iran when it was under the Shah's rule, before the Islamic Revolution. At this point I can't tell you more.

@svslav. The other side is a profile image of a head. What do I need to get a positive ID on this coin? I am very new to this so any help would be very appreciated.

If you have access to a scanner.........or a program that you can crop. Delete everything that is NOT the coin. Make the pictures less than 100 megabites and then you can upload them so we can see both sides better.
When you got larger pictures, hit the "reply to topic" so you can get the "upload picture" button.

Now, with my catalog in hand, I cannot really spot a match. Usually when there's an image of the Shah on the obverse the reverse has a lion with a sword or large nimerals for the denomination. This could be not a coin but a medallion of some kind. Does the portrait on the other side look something like this?:

I do not believe this is a coin, rather a medal. The gentleman featured is Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the shah of Iran from 1941 to 1979. The date on the medal is SH 1344 (1965). It's a couple of years short of his coronation (1967), but it's about his upcoming 25th anniversary on the throne. I found gold and bronze versions of this medal on the net, here's an example in gold, and here's an example in bronze.
