To big of a list that covers all denominations, pick up a RedBook and read it through a couple times, pay attention to mintages.
Rest in Peace

andreus-

No offense, but your questions sound like you're fairly young.

Coin collecting isn't as easy as finding out which ones are rare, then looking through a bunch of coins, finding rare ones and making a bunch of money. Read through some threads about searching half dollars and finding one (or zero) $5 coin in a box of 1000.

The first step is learn. Not prices, that comes later. Study a particular series or denomination. The nice thing about knowledge is once you have it, no one can take it from you. The more you know, the easier it will be for you to find the less obvious bargains that most people don't know exist, instead of butting heads on the stuff everyone knows to look for.

I think the first step for collectors is to buy the Whitman folders and start collections of the circulating coins. Try to find the best made examples with the least wear you can. As you assemble these sets you'll learn a great deal about what's circulating and what isn't.

As you learn you'll want to also look at the web sites that help you identify some of the varieties, errors, and types. There are CONECA for double dies and a rotated die site. This forum is good for answering specific questions.

You just have to get started so you know what to ask. With all the resources available now days people can become an expert pretty fast.

There are still undiscovered varieties out there so reference collections are quite important besides being a great deal of fun and enjoyment in their own right.

Coin Collecting......It's not just a job,it's an adventure.

Get a RedBook,a magnifier, some empty folders,a pile of assorted pocket change, and have an adventure that will last a lifetime!

Easy answer. Save and collect everything. Then you have nothing to worry about as to missing anything.
