I was wondering, if you could recommend one Dutch coin to a North American, which one would you choose, and why?
To reverse my own question, in thinking about what US coin I'd reccommend to a Dutchman, I'd want to know interests, budget, etc. And of course we're all colored by our own likes and dislikes.
Many of these choices would not be good investment picks, just ones that are emblematic of the best in American coinage, as defined by me

So I'll hedge and list 9;
Economy Budget (under 50 euros):
Nice AU or low MS common date buffalo nickel- "pretty" coin, workhorse of our economy at the time for daily purchases, one of the few
US coins with an emblematic NA animal, love the historic reference to a plains indian.
Common date liberty seated half in VF- like the appearance, historic coin
Common date
Walking Liberty half in MS63- one of the most attractive
US coins IMO, silver, large enough to have nice details, one of the best bald eagle depictions
19th century "o" or "s" MM
Morgan dollar in MS 63 or 64 - like the concept of those branch mints, if you need to know why a morgan, ask Fred or Kyra!
med budget (50-500 euros):
high relief
Peace dollar in MS- beautiful coin, silver dollar is somehow "the" american coin
Indian head half eagle in low MS- beautiful, incuse design, again with a plains indian and one of my favorite bald eagle depictions
Fugio cent in VG with good eye appeal- first coins issued by authority of the US, unique, quirky design
Ca diamond jubilee commem in MS63- one of the prettiest classic commems, rugged individualism of the prospector comes through, with the only extinct subspecies to appear on a US coin (CA grizzly bear)
Au st gauden's double eagle- possibly the prettiest US coin
Those are my 9 off the cuff recommendations to a hypothetical European who did not know
US coinage (realize that you may know much about
US coinage Carl!) who wanted to collect 1 US coin and spend either under 50 euros (63 USD, 80 CD), or 50 to 500 euros (630, 800 respectively). Stunningly, I don't own most of them (but hope to one day)
What what the rest of you recommend? List up to 5 in each price range.
Canadians, Aussies, Kiwis, Belgians and others, please post similar reccs for your coinage...
