G'day all,

Great site and obviously frequented by extremely knowledgeable and passionate people - as a newbie must admit to being in the dark about a lot of what your writing about ...

Anyway, I was wondering of any of you could point me in the direction of coins of recent vintage that are no longer in circulation and can be used in artistic works. Not looking for rare or valuable coins at this stage. Especially interested in pre-Euro European coins but also from around the world. Looking at sourcing around 30-40,000 units.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Mark

I have been told that the pre euro French coins were sold to a few companies and that those containing nickel were bought for stainless steel by the chinese
So large quantities like 40 000 are probably only to be found in non nickel containing alloys

About the cheapest you can find easily would be Canadian one cent coins. These cost more to ship around in this country than they are worth. The old bronzes are available for around 1/2c if you pay the shipping. A lot of Mexican coins will go very cheap but in Europe about the only thing easily found is 1P British coins. Indian small change is in the process of being withdrawn and demonetized and some of these would be very cheap if you can locate them. Most are aluminum. I'm surprised some of the old bhat coinage can't be found there for very low cost. Does this stuff still circulat?

Your best bet might be the French centimes. The 10c and smaller may not even be redeemable any more (some of the big ones aren't. You might try writing to a Paris coin dealer who specializes in low priced coins or moderns.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
