Okay folks, I started writing a brand new book today. It will be much more detailed than the last one that is still pending. I have asked Susan and Bobby to create a new section where each member will have the opportunity to proof read the up to date copy, along with offering their input to be included. All contributions will be considered and any used will receive their accomplishments dedicated to the person who contributed. If any of you wish to be a part of this book, please post here so that we can decide if there is a need for a seperate section.

nd; guess I would need a little more information on exactly as to the subject. Only then would I be able to know if there was anything that I might be able to contribute, or offer for the cause. Good luck on the book.

Not exactly in order, but the chapters that will be covered are as following.
1. Welcome to coin collecting 2. The coin dealers perspective 3. Price guides 4. Mintages versus Rarity 5. Glossary of terms 6. Types of dealers 7. Coin books and periodicals 8. Coin Clubs 9. Buying coins 10. Selling coins 11. Frequently asked questions 12. Mints and mintmarks 13. Basic supplies 14. Coin grading 15. Time for change 16. Good luck
I am hoping to make this basic enough for the collector with little experience, yet detailed enough for the collector who has experience. A new look at the hobby through the eyes of a dealer. My thought is, that I would post a few pages at a time, let everyone look it over and offer suggestions on wording, flow of the idea, and overall grammar. If something needs to be added or taken away.

ND, I think this will be a blast! What a great idea. I can certainly and think most of us would be able to provide a bunch of FAQ's, supply suggestions and opinions about changes both good and not so good in the hobby and some very skilled editing as well. There are enough people on the forum from other countries to perhaps add another view at collecting American as well as Foreign coins from their perspective! Rock on! Mike

I am not sure I would have anything worthwhile to contribute but I would be happy to provide input if I did.

maybe I'm missing something, but why would anyone buy the book if they could just read it on this site? I guess you can take it down after the "editing" help that you get, but if someone reads it online (or even prints off the chapters as they're posted), what would make them want to buy it?
As an aside, I find the idea very interesting and intend to read what you post here.

An interesting point, but unfortunately we don't have all the collectors as members here (though I wish we did! ) I think there will still be plenty of sales to be made out there.

That is quite a chore you have cut out for yourself. You can rest assureed that I will contribute to your effort when I feel it is of value and can be used. Good Luck, I'm looking forward to reading each article, then buying the book.

In the chapter on Time for a Change I would suggest specific things that make or can make coin collecting fun. SFDukie's thread on coin related songs has 40 replies and 284 views. And this is hardly the first time that coin related songs have come up. But people flock to this kind of thread because it is a *specific* way of having fun in coins. If people don't find fun in coin collecting what is going to keep them in it?

As some of you know, my passion in coins have lead me to work with tomorrows collectors (kids ages 5 - 17). After my experience with dealers, collectors, congressional members, kids groups, investors, and life in general, I have learned that kids who have hobbies are often less likely to get involved in destructive activities. Kids like to be involved and want to make a tomorrow that is different than today. The chapter on "time for a change" will impart some of my experiences, some quotes from leading experts in various fields, and overall a hope for tomorrow.

Why do you buy coins that you can see in magazines? You will find that 99% of the time, the things that I do are not for the money or the recognition, but for the people who make my life as great as it is. This is just my way to give a little something back to the hobby that changed my life.

Would this be a bok for "all", or just for the american market?

From what I understand of the purpose of this book, it would be useful to all collectors - regardless of country.
