With all due respect to you and your father, Mike Diamond and coppercoins are among the best for Lincoln Cent varieties and errors. If they say it's a fake, I believe em.

Many of the TPG's refer to the expertise of Mr. Diamond and coppercoins when doing their attributions. You can spend the money sending the coin to a TPG and standing a chance of paying for their advice, or you can get it here for free.

How on earth did I miss this thread for the last three weeks?

It appears we have is a good story that is well worth saving; along with the OP's replica 1943 copper Lincoln.

Now 909records piece looks quite authentic. That one would be worth a trip to a major TPG.

I hope all our CCF members had a safe and enjoyable St. Patrick's Day!

Wish you the best in having an authentic 1943 Copper.
I have never seen a real 1943 copper, but what I have
seen is copies, pour into a mold. The process is usually
unsuccessful , there are waves on surface , drips or drops
of material, flat or image missing in great detail.
Your coin definitely does not look like a shaved 8.
The 1,9,4,& 3 all appear fat may be due to inaccurate photos.
I have 1943 in completely AU circulated condition in steel.
I can only assume the same die was used for the copper and
that is what I base this opinion on.

I'm just curious why 909records hasn't chimed back in to say if he at least did the magnet test or not.
Rest in Peace

I'm 50+ years old and I call Mike Diamond and Charles Daughtrey, Mister. It is due respect to their expertise in the coin industry. If one of them said "fake" I'd bet on it, with both agreeing on "fake" I'd "take it to the bank".
Rest in Peace

This thread sounds like a conversation I've had several times over the years:

I have these Confederate bills and everyone says you're the expert. The (butcher, baker, candlestick maker) said they were prolly worth $100 each.

Sorry, but they're just copies.

But how can you tell?

After you've seen thousands of them, you learn what to look for. I can tell these particular bills are copies because they say "facsimile" on the back.

You're a rip-off!

<sigh>Maybe you can sell them to the (butcher, baker, candlestick maker).</sigh>

Good morning!
I really am not interested in selling my 43, only want to find out the truth. I am shocked that there appear to be so many "fake" coins out in the world of collecting. I am in the process of going through letters that my father wrote to him family to possibly find out where and when he acquired this penny. Did he know the status of the coin? I understand that if the coin was real it could be worth a lot of money but to "waste" time, energy and materials to reproduce a coin just seems like a total lose! Oh, and by the way I mailed the coin in yesterday to ANACS for a third party review. I went the 15 day route because of cost factors, no need investing in something that is not real. They did say several times on the phone they would not keep my coin if it is a fake. I will keep everyone posted. Thank you to everyone who has read my post and added their expert comments. I have taken all the advice to heart but went with my original gut reaction. Stay tuned!
