well picked up my first 10 rolls of quarters for my very first search. I didnt expect to find anything really but it was a little depressing to find nothing older than 2000.

Don't let it discourage you, I know guys who have went through $1000's before hitting silver. With time and some patience it will come

bought 22 rolls of dimes and found 4 1968 canadian dimes. That 50% silver if I have been informed correctly. Can anyone confirm? I think I like the dimes already...more to sort through than quarters for the same amount of money and at least you are always finding old ones like in the 1970s that gets you all excited!

Check the 1968 dimes with a magnet. If they stick they arent silver.

Touch the 68's with a magnet. If they stick they are not silver content.

Roll hunting requires patience. Try not to get discouraged if you do not find silver. It is out there you just have to put the time in to find it. When searching dimes...be sure to check your 1969's for the small and large dates.
Box-Of-Quarters

Look at the bottom loop of the 9. The bottom loop of the 9 is the easiest way to identify the difference for me.

Have fun and good luck with the searching.

OK, Well.....the dang things stick! Sadness. I will not get discouraged. Crappy thing is I brought the dimes back today already! I have no idea about this small date and large date or what the diff is. Another crappy thing is I know I threw 3 1969's back in. Hmmmm...is there anything else I should watch for with quarters and dimes? Sorry everyone, you are prolly shaking your head at me and rightfully so, I have always stuck with just bullion so this is sooooo different.

Your 68's can be nickel and have two different types of reeded edge.
Flat bottom or v shaped. 10x mag is a must. Dimes only

1970's are few and far between. Nickel, dime, quarter.

1980 dime has two different 0's

Quarters 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, (all caribou) are all keepers.

1999p and 2000p are good in all denominations. I have found 6 2000p nickels.

I know I ask for so much, But could you educate me a bit on why you specify these facts? I'm doing research on them right now but what the facts sheets say and peoples personal experiances can differ and I preferr experiance over stats. The more I learn the better off I am. Thanks ! You guys all rock....I knew it was a good idea signing up here! CHEERS!

No prob.
1999p are a test coin set of actual coins, not tokens
Almost no 2000p we're released into circulation.
1991 quarters less than half a million minted
1992, 1997, 1998, 2000 caribou are from broken sets, not circulation.
1970 is a somewhat low mintage for the nickel metal coins.
The 1980 dimes are a variety in Charlton regarding the style of O
The 68 reeding edge dimes are the work of the Philadelphia mint making nickel coins for Canada.

There is a 1978 quarter with the word Canada placed far from the rim (small denticles) and close to the rim (large denticles) it is easy to see looking at the A In Canada
