Hi
New member here, so hoping I'm in the right spot. Just getting back into collecting after several years away from it, and happened on what I think was a small bead 1966 Canadian dollar in a lot I bought recently. I decided to send it off to CCCS for grading after reading some threads here, and they received it on Feb 14 (based on tracking the package), but they still haven't cashed my cheque and no contact about the coin. I'm not in a rush to get it back, but just wondering if this is a normal length of time? I've emailed them twice just to confirm they received it but they haven't responded. Any ideas out there on how long it usually takes?

Thanks for the welcome.
ICCS is the other grading company (and granted is more established), but CCCS has a website and just seems more accessible, particularly when trying to find out info on coins they've graded. I've also read good things about them in the forums, not too much negative.

Yes, Did you have tracking and insurance on the package? Those are usually mandatory precautions when mailing valuable items. In terms of turnaround, the USA companies often take 6 to 8 weeks to return "economy"-level submissions (at the lowest grading cost). If you pay more, you can get your coins much faster, even overnight if you really want to pay through the nose. So, your 14-day wait so far should not raise any concerns. I would be concerned if you can't get in touch with anyone at the company. If CCCS doesn't answer the phone or respond to emails about submissions I'd immediately take them off my "reputable grading service" list. Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Thanks Jaobler. I did have tracking and insurance on it, and according to the tracking it arrived on the 14th of February. I wasn't panicking yet, but was just getting concerned...I figured they would have at least cashed the cheque quickly to give it time to clear.
Funny thing is, after posting my question about this yesterday, the cheque when through my account last night. So I can at least assume at this point that they have the coin. I'll give it some time and watch the mail.

Thanks biggfredd.
received the coin back 2 days ago, unfortunately not small bead :(
I could have sworn it was, to my eyes the bead appeared to be directly above the "I" in Regina (the way to tell according to other posts I've read), I even compared it to other 1966's that I have. But, at least now I know rather than just wondering.

well, why do you not post pictures? I know of a case where a 1966 was submitted to PCGS and came back as LB. then to NGC.. came back as LB then to ICCS.. came back as LB then again to ICCS telling Brian to check beyond the toning.... we all know it was a SB... then it came back as a SB which it is. asking PCGS and NGC why they would not have recognized it... there were very vague answers and , interfesting, both with Credits for future gradings. we assumed they all take only a few seconds to look at it...and miss a lot. ok, that was a few years back...but, the SB were known then.. SO, please post some images......

Hello, I sent coins to CCCS on Sept.20/12, they cashed my check on Sept. 24, but I still don't have my coins back. I phoned and they said 5 weeks because they were busy. Seems like a long time. 5 weeks is up so I guess I'll have to phone again.

It's a good sign that they are busy. It's better for you if they take some time and grade them accurately. Them rushing would be bad. You shouldn't have problems with them. Not including the current wait.

When I used there services to grade some coins the turn around was 5+ weeks but it was also right around Xmas last year I like there hard slabs so the wait was worth it

6 weeks for the major US graders at times is not unusual. And it always amazes me when people say the answer is to higher more graders. They want their coins graded as accurately as possible, but since it takes to long the answer is to hire less qualified staff? It's like they say we aren't going to have enough doctors so the medical schools need to accept more students. How?, by lowering admissions standards? Would you want a doctor who wasn't good enough to qualify for admission before?
Same thing goes for graders. The best qualified are either making more as dealers, or they are already employed by the grading services. In order to get more graders you have to go after less qualified people.
