Considering a purchase here. Buyer is claiming XF condition. What do you folks thin? Thanks. Colin Image: DSC01297.jpg83.29 KB Image: DSC01298.jpg87.99 KB

Optimistic, but not crack-smoking. I'd call it a strong VF, weak EF. Noted weaknesses are Liberty's right side (viewer's left) and the eagle's neck and left (viewer's right) wing.

Sorry I meant Seller is claiming XF, not the buyer. Thanks Dave.

I would go VF-35.I think the "Liberty" is just a hair weak to be XF.

Well you folks have it pegged I think. I had it at a strong VF also. Unfortunately the Buy IT Now price is too high for a VF and would be a bargain were it an XF. There is a large price difference between VF and XF. Excepting Ernie, who overgrades and over prices many of his coins considerably, many of these sellers who claim to know nothing about grading will price their Buy It Now prices in a way that makes me suspect they know quite a lot about grading. Mynt, I think your coin has a stronger obverse than this one. Think I'll let this one slide. Thanks to all.

Okie, I have found that many sellers who have a "Buy it now" price will take a lesser offer, even if they don't have "Make an offer" listed. If your interested in the coin, that is always an option.Never hurts to ask.

Good idea TLS. How do I do that and not violate ebay's rules? Can the seller accept a lesser amount on his listing and still run it through ebay? There isn't a Make an Offer option. Colin

ebay still gets paid. All the seller has to do is relist as "Buy it now" at the lower price you offered.Or the seller can end the auction and send you a paypal request for the agreed amount with the ebay item number listed and they still get paid.

OK TLS, I made him a VF price offer. Hope he takes it and I don't get ebay all upset. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the suggestion. Colin

Ernie, ewbcoin or whoever he is calling himself at the current time always overgrades his coins in my opinion but he sure does have a pile of coins

Well DLS, I made him a fair offer for a VF coin and he accepted it. Thanks for the idea.

Good luck on that. The seller could complain to ebay later that you didn't send sufficient funds. Why on Earth he would do such a thing is beyond me though. Still, you have to be careful when you step outside the lines at ebay. He graded it an XF, and asked high VF money? They call that a "Blue collar" coin when a dealer does that, don't they? The difference is that you knew the correct grade.
