I'm posting this from car, so I'm not sure of the quality of the pictures. I found this while role hunting yesterday, it was in a bank roll. I'm guessing it had to have been part of someone's collection, as you can clearly see the steps.

What would you grade it?
Is it worth getting graded?

Thanks!

Also, do you think it carries a premium over silver value?

I would say it definitely carries a premium over silver value. Great find...I'm not that good at grading but I'll give it a go....I can't see how it would go below MS....so I'll say at least MS-60...It might go higher with better pictures.

Its a superb roll find!

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like this one has some wear, albeit slight. Could be bag marks, tho. Nice coin!

There are a lot of marks on the front and back, that look like they can be cleaned off. Not damage. Is there a way I can clean it, and more importantly, should I clean it?

Don't clean it! If it has some sort of goo or gunk, maybe acetone, but when in doubt, leave it alone.

... if in doubt leave it alone ... maybe some acetone for organic material removal .. and even that takes some practice.

I'm saying AU-something ... excellent roll find indeed.

I have no idea about grading, but I looked up au 58 coins, and this definitely looks better. When I get home tonight, I will try to get better pictures.

Would it be worth getting slabbed?

Thanks for all the input so far!

War Nickels are rarely worth slabbing (unless the are MS-65+), especially if you plan on "flipping" it. But if that is what your insides tell you, go right ahead.

Oih82w8, thanks for that answer. I'm not looking to flip it, I just don't want to invest in grading it, if I at least don't break even after. Even if I have no intentions on selling. (Which I won't)

Nice find. Looks like a high AU coin to me. I can't speak for you, but if it were me I wouldn't get it slabbed since it's not that valuable a coin.

I'm definitely not going to get it slabbed, based on the input here, but I figured I would post two more pictures. These were the best I could get:

1943-D-War-Nickel
1943-D-War-Nickel

Thanks again for all the help!

Interesting die cracks at the top of the obverse (rim through hair). A few more scratches visible on the east side that I didn't see before. Still AU in my opinion.
