hello all, I came into possession of this unique penny via my grandmother some 4 or 5 years ago. it has been folded over and printed on the part where it reads " IN GOD ( we trust)''. is there anyone else who cares to speculate on this? Thanks, Lorenzo.

I agree with oih82w8. This was damaged after being minted.

i honestly dont know, someone really went through alot of work to even lift the rim and it looks to me like it was an error. I guess not? would that also explain the imprinting on the edges ?

I'm thinking a lamination that peeled. The line is straight whick laminations run. Looks like the remains of devices under the peeled area. I think this is the real deal. If someone had pulled the edge off, the underlying devices not have been there. Unique find. On the opposite side of the area in question is there a lamination there are well? I've seen this before on both faces of the coin.

Well I didnt want to be the one to burst your bubble, but no they are not worth that much. Just a novelty item. If you sold it, it might buy you a few gallons of gas.

Like some errors there are more demand for some. Others a modest premium. Normal laminations may bring $1. Yours is a stronger example. So it would be worth more. How much I don't know. You might check ebay and see what they are going for. Save the link to the auction and see what it goes for. If it sells then you know about what it should go for.

I agree with it being a lamination. It's peeled back, not scraped or dented.
