Hello all. I've been following this thread because I, as well, am going through a box of pennies; and it's my first. I figured I would join because there is some good advice and knowledge here. It was a Brinks sealed box and I asked the teller if she could please open it for me to make sure they were not all new mint 2010's or '11's shields. She did and they were all plastic wrapped, I went ahead and picked up a roll and looked at the end, 1972, and though oh yeah were in business  Going through the box now and trying to fill a 1959 - 1998 book, I figured I might as well since i'll be looking through 2500 pennies. I also bought a '30 - '58 for wheats. I didn't get the 1909 - '30 because I though those years would be more difficult to find and fill. I may start a new thread with my findings, pictures and statistics (I'm keeping track). Oh and what do you guys do with you leftovers, reroll them and turn back into the bank? |

Illis: I to just recently started searching too which is why I created this thread. This is a great website. If you don't know something theirs usually someone on here that does. I keep all wheat cents and all copper cents. The left overs I re roll and return to a different bank.
I found a struck through a capped die. and I found a aluminum plated cent. Too bad it wasn't the real deal.

Went through a box of nickels, oldest was 1938 had like 6 of those...How are you finding coins so old?.....what bank?

Yeah, I got around 10-15 1938's and 1939's plus some 40's and 50's. If you want some I'll be happy to share! I think I'll order the sorter something this month I'll let you know.

I was looking at that sorter and It seems you can make one alot cheaper. Think I'm gona give it a try. Get the machine for $45 off ebay then go to the hardware to make a slide for the coins. |

I just made my own copper penny sorter that also sorts silver. I will post a video soon.

How's that coming? I was looking at one of the high end Rydale sorters but they run at around $550 but sort 300 coins a minute or 18,000 an hour. It would be worth it if I wanted to hoard a few thousand worth of copper and pull some wheaties out. I can get a used one for $375.00 on ebay expensive but a nice machine |
