Hi everyone, I am not sure what to make of this coin other than the fact that it was minted in Constantinople and that it has a rather unusual bust on the obverse. I can only make out the lettering "LHEL" from the 9-11 o'clock position. The actual bust is quite curious since it does not appear to be wearing a crown and the figure seems to have long hair. Is this a female individual?

echizento- Thanks! I was suspecting that as well! Any idea as to the dates when coins were minted depicting her? I know that she was the wife of Constantius I. So were coins only minted during his rule? Or were they also minted during the rule of Constantine I? (After all, she was Constantine the Great's mother).

It's either RIC VIII, Constantinople 49 CONS epsilon, or 33 CONS epsilon dot. These were posthumous issue circa 337-340.

echizento- Great! Thanks! So these were issued after Constantine I also was dead? Any idea as to the rarity of coins depicting her? Any idea as to the value (I suspect that it is not a ton given the clipped planchet).

Both Ric 33 and 49 are listed as Scarce. Sadly your coin has condition issues and is probably worth a couple of dollars.

as said earlier these where postumus struck commemoratives here is one of mine. Its a very small coin. I wonder what kind of change these made compared to a sestertius or what exactly these bought. Maybe they where used as offerings at the temples since religion was a big business back then(and still is).
