Hmmm ... no expert here ... F12 net with some reverse damage. Nice circulation find indeed. David

I'd grade it conservatively at VG-10

Very interesting coin, I like it, especially for a roll find!
The reverse is LDS, notice how the motto is merging into the rim. The weakness in the wheats and the center are not as much wear as they are strike/die issues. I think I see separation between the cheek and jaw. The lapel still shows nicely and the ear looks to be mostly there. IMO, technically is borderline VF, but I'll go conservative because the reverse does show wear: F12

Great roll find. It would surely make my day. I think it might go as high as F-15.

just a question about "badthad's" informative response. how do you differentiate late die state from wear, in the case of the letters merging with the rim. they look very similar to me.

Quote: how do you differentiate late die state from wear, in the case of the letters merging with the rim. they look very similar to me. Excellent question! The bottomline is experience. Also, all of the branch mint issues were notorious for minting problems like over-using dies, non-parallel dies and dies spaced too far apart. In general, as the die wears the devices begin to spread out. Not just toward the rim, but they become fatter and on higher grade coins you can see flow lines extending out. When you have wear bad enough to effect the motto, the rim will be almost gone all the way around. This coin has a good rim still.

The wear on the reverse is almost slick. It makes sense when you explain it.
