This poor old thing is as smooth as a river rock, so it's difficult for me to tell just what the diagonal mark on the obverse is, or was.
Considering the fact that it is still visible on a smooth coin, I don't believe it to be an old scratch or gouge. Were it that, I believe it could still be felt.
Anyone here have any ideas as to what may have created it?

Hi Ralph

Im afraid at this point any answer would only be specualtion and unprovable,, its possible that it is a planchet seam or its possible that the coin was deeply scratched to check its authenticity, or its possible it was the object of a kids obsession and suffered the many things that a kid can do to a coin.

There are any number of things that could have happened to the coin,, but one thing is certian it served its purpose .

That's a very interesting coin, regardless of what happened it.
