A friend has an unusual dime. It is a 25% obv. brockage 1913 dime with a uniface rev. The date is backwards. The coin appears cleaned and weighs 2 grams. I showed it to a few EXPERTS and did not get the same story twice. I was told that it was struck on a sanded down planchet.. then, a slug, and yet another very well known dealer said nice coin.
This coin has some messed up details on rev side. Makes it appear that it was not filed or sanded down. Furthermore, the color is slightly off. In addition the coin displays a clearly doubled and seperate D from United in the brockage strike. There is some very clear denticles in the brockage strike near the rim and they are not doubled at all nor are there other signs of any double strike or bounce doubling on the coin itself indicating that this planchet was struck only once.
There is also signs of reeding on coins edge, or 3rd side.
I believe that this brockage was struck from a double struck obverse Barber dime.
It amazes me how some EXPERTS did not notice the reeded edge or the doubling of the D in the brockage before rendering opinions. Go figgure.
If this coin is real, how would it be valued? As an Off metal of which there are an estimated 4 known for the entire Barber series coinage mintage, or as a uniface, or as a brockage? Comments? Others known? Guesses as to value? Net grade... F-VF. Can post pics with help..Thanx....Gusp

would really need pictures because it could be anything from a squeeze job (not saying thats what it is) to an actual error and pictures would help determine either way what it actually was

Need help with pics. Can send photos email. If squeeze job, what is with the clearly doubled D?
If coin was squeezed and it doubled I could understand. Problem I have is that coin indicates no other doubling to speak of. Particularily on the denticles. If this is real it is one very rare error coin. Thanx
