This one seller claims inheritance and I know nothing about coins, and yet they have been listing for about a year or so, selling nothing but Morgans along the way, saying the same short bit and selling some amazing Morgans along the way, all around 45 on typical ones, on up of course on key dates, running auction so current market produced their value.... Finally at what might be the end of the line they list some proof eagles and finally at again the end of the list an auction with BLURRY pics of 100 slabbed quarters, dimes, nickles, and penny's, an what looks like a basement grader listed in title as "fancy holders" lol.... I am hoping they cleaned up on all those Morgans as I know they did, and got lazy an did not look into all 100 or pull out the silver quarters or dimes, doubtful but who knows anything is possible, AND fully expected it to get higher, but perhaps did not realize pics on lot of 100 was so blurry.... I of course don't expect any pre 64 silver, but it ended late with bad pics, and the dealer claims no knowledge yet puts things in listing like ms 66 stunner, so I don't expect much.... Here is the kicker, I won all 100 slabbed quarters, dimes, nickles, an penny's for just over 80 bucks, and I did make out a few Merc dimes, so this can't be all bad.... Worst case if it is modern day nice examples, I can add them to my personal collection for just viewing enjoyment, and who knows it would only take a few of those penny's to be a special mint mark an year to pay for the whole lot ten fold, if I got real lucky, and I am not gonna count on that.... Even if every slab yielded just a five buck average, an it took 4 years to sell them all, that is still 420 cleared before ebay an shipping etc.... Like Dave Hester says on the storage shows..."If you can't blow 50 or 75 on what looks like a junk locker that might yield gold, you won't be in the business long" Edited by Silverhawk74 03/06/2012 01:43 am

Nice catch! Diaper fund source #1 :) Please update with non-blurry pics when you get the coins in hand!

It is a coincidence but while surfing yesterday I saw this sellers lot and I think it is the same one you saw or are considering buying. coinsrocksgems1 [eBayItem]220968880761[/eBayItem] He should change his name to P.T. Barnum since there is a sucker born every minute. ( even tho P.T. Barnum probably didn't say that. ) This is the guy that supposedly finds coins in old clocks, under loose floor boards, jars buried in the garden etc. and he keeps cigar boxes that these coins are found in to save you on shipping. I think it is a silly place to put my money. You get what you pay for. I would rather have 1 real collectible coin for the money over a bunch of plastic flips filled with common pocket change and junk box culls.

Yeah Coinguy PT did come to mind not that seller but very similar, must be a new scam out there all running....
I didn't really buy it hoping for any silver, just figured it would be a nice grouping of some numismatic basement grade coins, at a great price. At 1.25 each I new they could not be real special, but again surely they have more value then that if sold each over time, an if not I can hold on an pass it on down the line, as a coin teaching tool or something along those lines....

Very similar, probably same sell under different name, minus one listing out of Florida while the other is out of Texas. Also the link you listed is from a big time dealer, and the listing below is short of 300 feed-backs. Picture looks to be one in the same, with better images on the link you listed.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/15077073181....m1439.l2649

Based on the pictures provided in the auction you bid on, it looks like the exact same "random" set of coins that are mentioned in the auction that TheNickelGuy linked to. I'd be willing to bet you just spent $83 on a whole bunch of dirt common pennies, nickels and dimes in generic slabs. The slabs, in fact, may be worth more than the actual coins in some instances. Since these aren't actually graded by a reputable TPG, they really would have no value over face whatsoever.

Probably so Barry, oh well that is why I rarely gamble, lol.... Only reason I bid is because I thought I saw some Mercs, an they will turn out to be 2011 dimes, lol.... I will list them all for 4 or 5 bucks each in free listings an see if I can move smalls, as I have never tried, or crack them open an dump them in the coinstar, rof , JK.....

I apologize Silverhawk74 as I do not want you to think I am putting you down with the P.T. Barnum comment. It would be a good educational post about this type of listing if you follow up with what you get from this guy. Maybe it is a fair deal in the end and you will even come out ahead with some luck but I think that this is just a way for some sellers to make money. I think there are a lot of auctions on ebay that the presentation looks attractive and that's how they sell things. It kind of falls under the unsearched rolls category with a Flying Eagle cent showing on the end. Be well, I am glad you are a member of the family and meant no harm. I surely have made my own mistakes, probably worse than this numerous times, and maybe, just maybe you will be happy with the purchase. Just please let us know what you ended up with.Obviously, if there are other listings with the same image, you will most likely get a similar lot as the stock image. I am thinking of wasting some energy and reporting the one seller as taking or stealing the images from another. Thanks!

Now offense taken by me Nickelguy (sorry I called you Coin earlier, lol), as my dad always says...."If you are gonna be dumb, you better be tough", and I fall into that category on this one, rof .... But I don't mine being the guinea pig on this one, as at least if it is a scam I can warn all the board to be weary of these auctions, as they should be anyway. Again, only 2 oz. silver loss, so not the end of the world if I had bought elsewhere, and I normally get good items, but have like most here bought a lemon or two. If you play enough on ebay like I do, you will get burned eventually IF NOT MORE CAUTIOUS, just a matter of when not if.... Again, I was hoping the seller may have been nice enough to sneak in a couple of mercs, maybe a pre 1964 quarter or two, an maybe a couple o War Nickels.... And, I want to research every coin closely for condition, key date, etc., an who knows may find a gem, that can be cracked opened an re-graded by one of the top grading company's. Un-likey, but not out of the realm of possible with 100 of these coins I figure....

An $80 risk, where at worse you're looking at a minimum of $40-$50 worth of coins, with potential for much better, isn't much of a risk.
I would take that one all day long I think.

Quote: An $80 risk, where at worse you're looking at a minimum of $40-$50 worth of coins, with potential for much better, isn't much of a risk. Well, if it were truly a random lot of coins, you'd probably be right. When you buy from a seller who purposely assembles lots of junk coins in fake slabs, however, you can pretty much be guaranteed that there's no potential whatsoever (and I think even the $40-50 you mentioned may be on the extremely generous side). It's similar to the "unsearched" rolls of wheat pennies that the seller claims might possibly have a 1909S VDB in them.

True dat Barry, but I found another similar lot from different dealer then the other two, and better pics with what looks like some real nice cameo quarters, like 1974 an what not. Hey, I would be tickled to death to get those, great to look at as it is not always about turning a quick buck or or the metal content of the coin to me as I am starting to feel now the more I get into coins.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUGE-LIQUID...em5647c77a39Like my mother bought me an amazing little 3 coin set for my birthday, 1943 Steel Wheat penny's, with Lincoln on the front of the pack, an coa on back. It also came with a neat little lightly circulated 1906 Indian Head penny. Now I don't expect to ever sell them or turn a profit on them, but man I enjoy owning them an looking at them, fantastic history....
