I bought one of the 4 pack wheat dollars & when I looked at them I was shocked to see the terrible strikes on these coins.
As an error collector it does'nt really worry me but it was still a bit of a shock.
The pics are'nt great because their hard to photograph in these packs but you will see what I'm talking about.

Wow, that's not great!
I hope I don't order a set like that.
I saw a "p" wheat on ebay with a streak on the $1 and I turned y nose up at it, seems there being a bit slap happy at the mint.

Also major unhappy with the 2012 proof set I ordered from the mint, I spent a few months saving up for it and when it arrived it had grease on the outside of the plastic, I wiped that off BUT INSIDE too, I think the $1 is covered in it.
WHAT HAPPENED TO QUALITY CONTROL! Also the box had a crease in the cardboard corner, was spewing for ages about it as I'm a perfectionist.
Anyway couldn't be bothered to send it back, it will end up being an error set.

Thats is pretty bad AustralianCoin,I've never heard of anyone actully having grease in the case, but about 4 years ago there was a discussion on Oztion about coins that had something on the centre of the coins that took all the frosting away from the coins in a perfect circle.

Australian Coin if you contact the Mint they will give you a reply paid address to send your problem set. This way there is no cost to you in getting a good set. You just have to have kept your receipt.

They are nasty looking coins.
I have bought heaps of mint sets and touch wood I have not had any dramas yet.
I got a few 2012 mint sets ( Love the 50 cent) and the ones with the early serial # seem to have a better strike than the set with later serial # that's what may have happened to these coins , but in spades.
my Proof sets are always perfect including the 2012 set

The mint has shifted in my opinion to a more profit driven approach to coins and thus a collector may expect quality issues with their coins when ordered from mint.
Good example of profit driven thinking is 150th Anniversary of State Government series silver coins they now sell for $87 even though they are minted with silver they purchased in 2005/2006 when it was very low. They couldn't sell them at $60...now there at $87....when business logic would suggest drop the price not increase.
With this profit driven mentality one may expect a drop in quality to naturally follow
Then again, they are not doing anything different than most big business thesedays.....
