"Hi Ho rainbow silver!"

I think these rainbow toned Morgan's are real nice, amazing color....

I know that people put these coins in their freezer an what not in attempt to trigger faster toning, but in the end I really don't care. I think they are beautiful numismatic pieces no matter how they got that way. And hey .7734 of silver is still present, not to mention being XF or a key date. Triple headed monster if you had good examples of all three of the fore mentioned graded by NGC....

However if the idea of fake toning bugs you, I think you can't go wrong with older toned coins. As if the coin is a 100 plus years old, good chance that toning is authentic esp when you get that amazing blue an green colors, but again what do I know, lol....

Well, the particular auction you linked to is definitely Artificially Toned (the seller even admits it when he includes "AT" in the description). The colors do look nice, but if I really wanted an Artificially Toned coin I think I would hold off for one with a more uniform pattern instead of just half the coin toned. That's just me, though. Buy what you like!

I love toning on coins too, but there is nothing pretty (to me) about this kind of toning.

I like you Barry enjoy the full circumference toning, I just linked a random coin from his list for the coloring on it....

Being AT or not, again meaningless to me. I care more about what the coin looks like, and if it is a solid coin itself condition wise....

If you watch the running auctions, you can find naturally toned ones for decent prices on running auctions compared to high cost buy it now listings....

I like the title of this thread. Reminds me of a guy I used to know. He worked in a local bank setting up loans for people. His business card had a sillouhette of a cowboy on a horse and read: "The Loan arRanger".

This coin was for sale on ebay, from a reputable seller and they were asking over $5,000 (It was PCGS graded - But I don't remember the grade) But it is still the nicest toner I have ever seen.

And I get those above between 45 an 50 bucks, so not bad at all if you know about the price of toned coins, esp the ones which tone naturally over many years....

There is too much Morgan favoritism in toning discussions!

Lol CW, I have been hunting for a nice graded Merc dime today, with nice rainbow toning. The problem, the price my stars nice Merc rainbows go for BIG MONEY, and they seem to be harder to find with nice toning like your example above....

This guy here has a bunch of highly rainbowed loose Mercs up, and they are all priced like 85 each, no grades, lol. And they look way to toned to be natural too boot....

Those are horrible AT coins! BLECH! Worth melt IMO. KILL IT WITH FIRE! He's got two naturally toned ones, but they're way overpriced, even for the color.

That I posted one was a naturally toned MS68FB and went for moon money on Heritage.

If you want a nice type example for the series, look for a Denver coin from 1938-1945. In terms of quality, they're the 1881-S of Mercs, and they're abundant enough in high grades that you can be picky and get a very pretty full-bands example.

And rainbow toned examples are out there for fair prices - I didn't pay an arm and a leg for these, for instance:

Supposedly if you put silver coins in a sealed envelope with a bunch of matches the sulfur will do a nice toning job. I think it speeds up the process if it is kept warm, say, left on a window sill in the sun.

For people who are looking for Nice Toned Coins, that are TPG graded, "kryptonitecomics" on ebay is one of the best. He starts all of his auctions at $0.99 and have no reserve. He lists coins every weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Wow, CBN great coins there thanks so much!

That 57 quarter I like, and the ASE!

I may have bad taste to most on this, but I like the brightly colored coins, especially when there real like this seller here.....
