I've been looking at some kitco charts, and it seems pre-2004 silver was at a pretty solid 5$ an ounce ish. and then BOOM! a linear growth started, rising the price in silver.

This linear growth seemed to continue until about 2010, which a new linear trend start shooting up, with a much higher slope, increased to 50$ an ounce!

And then, silver started falling at a similar slope that it rose in 2004, but in the negative direction until the beginning of 2012, and now it seems like we are climbing up! But who knows...

Just curious if anyone knew why these things happened. Which I'm sure is more complicated then simply saying THIS happened, or THAT happened.

More than likely there was an obvious perception that the value of the Federal Reserve Note was diving steeply and the market reacted.

One of the major factors in the rise in silver prices was the creation of ETFs backed by physical silver. Prior to that silver production(supply) was higher than demand. One thing people ignore is that the silver demand by the ETFs didn't USE the silver, it merely took it off the market. If for some reason investors start bailing out of the silver ETFs all that silver will come back on the market......inevitably driving prices down.

I agree with the Fed and ETF influences contributing to the rise in silver prices. Another aspect of this was likely quickly rising industrial demand for silver to make electronic devices and solar arrays. Both of those were coming on pretty strongly about then.

Interesting thoughts, as that was way before my coin or pm days, and I have wondered the same.....
