Sorry Steve, it seems that I may have a 50c coin that you may not have. This coin below is a contemporary counterfeit/forgery that I purchased off a coin dealer a little while back. How could I pass off such an opportunity? I just love the thought that goes into their process. Older counterfeits & forgeries have a certain charm & can tell the story of their time. They are worlds apart from the worthless trash coming out of China these days. That is why this has a space in my collection...or off away at the local police station. My belief of contemporary counterfeits/forgeries is they are a piece of history. Just like Twible & Manders who did a huge amount back in the late 1920's to early 1930's. The history & stories about them was very interesting. Anyway, this coin is from 1973 & was the most valuable coin at the time, which is perhaps why it has been forged? What could 50 cents buy in 1973? Quite a bit considering that it was the year that the average male earnings first topped $100 a week (considering it's now around $1,375). Does that mean that just under $7 is the new 50c? From that you could possibly see why it was done.

Goatieman THIS is a contemporary forgery, yours is a modern counterpart, the person that made this risked hanging for this offence. The person that made yours would have spent a couple of months in jail if caught.

The only ones worth me than face if not UNC are the 2001 federation ($1.50-3 dependant on grade) and the 1991 rams head ($5)
The others seem to be in good nick though. Check if the millennium coin is the incuse variety.

I usually sell the federations in groups of about 30 and have got between $35-50. I dont really think one state is worth more than others although here is SA I have trouble finding the norfolk island one. I see some go individually on ebay in higher grades for a couple bucks. Thats what I based the figure of $1.50-$3 on.

Quote: I still no idea how quote your reply To quote someone in your reply, copy the part of their text that you want to quote, open your ‘Reply to Topic' box, go to the Format toolbar in your ‘Reply to Topic', click on 2nd last icon on the right, a tiny page with a red arrow pointing right, this will place double [quote][brackets] into your post, paste the copied words in between the first [quote] and the second, then finish your reply. Good luck!

Steve do you have the ultra rare 1988 COA (Coat of Arms) or 1977 COA? It is my dream to find one of those while noodling

You probably think I'm but I am actually serious. Page 134 of the latest Macca's. In 2006 a 1988 COA sold for $5,400 and there are 7 known examples of a 1977 COA. Officially no COA 50c were minted in those years but apparently a few of them were created by accident. Just something else to look out for while noodling
