Some sort of chemical exposure, or maybe it was set on fire or something.

My guess is the coin sat in oil, as if someone tried to tone it. Maybe it came out of the grease trap at McDonalds, or the pit at JiffyLube.

It's "purdy," but not unusual. It's simply oxidized and worn.
