Looks like the die has been over polished and has left scratches on the die resulting in these raised parallel lines on the coin

I agree with Trout: doesn't really look like PMD

so would this be classed as an error? It's funny 'cause you have to hold it at the right angle to even see it and it's just that tiny little patch that has that funny look, sort of like it has little stretch marks

thanks team, googled it and after looking at some pics I'd say yes but very light die polish and after seeing some others it could be mistaken for being cleaned maybe when it's a really bad die polish. So $1,000,000 on ebay or maybe a fiva

Commonly known as Die Polish Lines (DPL). I doubt it will add anything to the value of the coin, maybe even detract a little. I've got a few 2003 Volunteer 50 c's with DPL's on the reverse that look like Die Cracks, but they are dead straight and I don't consider them to be worth any more than 50c.
I'll dig them out and get some images in the next few days. Got some on 2001 as well, COA CoF ones.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

I put one aside the other day because it was pretty much an EF/aUNC & after reading this post I has another look & it too has the same die polishing lines on it. There ya go.

Is it worth anything? I doubt it, I think it's just more of an oddity for the collection.

Wow, that is one really interesting vine pattern ! I think that one photo alone perked up my interest in Australian coins. Thanks! Regarding the die polish lines, if people like me really like die cracks, there may be a few who really like die polish lines...although I haven't met one here yet...
