Not really a coin, but I found this amongst some other ancient Roman coins.

Luckily it came in an envelope marked: BONE SEAL / OBV DIE - OBV OF SOLIDUS OF BYZANTINE EMPIRE - EMPEROR FOCAS 602-610 AD

I have uploaded the Negative images as well as it is hard to make out the details.

Can anyone offer some idea of value? or how and when it was used, would it be used to seal for documents?

Interesting piece, I agree it's probably a seal that appears to have had a lot of use.
