Post Your New Currency Acquisitions!

Coins are slowly taking the back seat to my Confederate Currency addiction. At first it was just an impulse buy, but as I learned about my Southern roots, it became more important to me as a way to connect to my ancestors, two of which were in the Army of Tennessee of the Confederacy. I bought this a few months ago, but forgot to post it as I promised. I got this from Mr. Knight's Store, Knight's Coins, in Hobart. Unfortunately, the tear prevented him from getting it graded, but besides the tear and crinkle/fold marks, it's in pretty good shape in my opinion. Interestingly enough, the Citizen's Bank of Louisiana, which produced this note, also created the infamous "Dix" (ten) note, which is supposedly the origin of the term "Dixie". I'm not giving any detailed information, but I'll be making my first big numismatic purchase on another Confederate note. So that's something to keep y'all as excited as I am for it.

Picked up this nice KC FRBN yesterday. Getting close to completing this short set, but the Dallas hump is a huge one.

Thanks - I collect the $50s and $100s of all small size series up through 1950-D in high grade (the 1928 $100 FRNs by district are my favorite). They are quite affordable for the most part; the high face value will probably always deter real collector interest, however.

Having luck with $50s lately - just picked this up for my 1928 FRN district set. It's a CGA holder, of course, but just phenomenal in hand, with remarkable centering on both sides and no evidence of any disturbance under a strong backlight. I will cut it and send to PMG this fall.

I did just buy this 1935 1 plain. It may not be the best looking bill but I still like it. He said he found it in a wall.

Steve - As noted in the past, I am a fan of CGA notes if they meet tight conditions, and I have had considerable success cutting and resubmitting them to PMG (expecting a lower numerical grade, but PQ paper, which I usually receive). Complicated subject. I never buy a CGA note online without full return privileges so I can examine it in my "lab" - i.e., magnified with a strong backlight.

I regularly get new listings from a couple of dealers who know I buy CGA notes, but I find just as many on ebay. Savvy ebay currency dealers know that, despite the ban on showing full CGA holders, it is permissible to show the upper front border of such a holder with the paper quality designation - and after that, it is easy to correspond with the seller to get the assigned CGA grade, and then go from there (if interested) to talk price.

@ ckrakowsi - I think coinfrog was only offering his opinion. Please use these times as a learning experience. Coinfrog has one of the finest paper currency collections that I know and I always value his opinion.

You will only become a better collector as you post more and learn from what other's have to say. I can't even tell you the countless times I got my bubble busted when I first joined CCF in the coin section when I posted a new coin only to hear that it was cleaned. I didn't get mad...I just learned how to spot coins that were not cleaned.
