While this short snorter isn't a U.S. note some of the signatures on the back are from the U.S. Nurses that were captured by the Japanese when Bataan fell during WWII. I am still researching the signatures and date for specifics but it should be an interesting research project. Picked it up at the LA ANA show.

Another raw note from recent purchase headed to PMG, a 1934 Series FRN $100 star.

The Chicago district star is the most often seen - the rest of them are pretty tough. Paper, centering and embossing here are PQ, but it was (I think) pinched at the top once, so we'll see. Price was right, I could live with high AU.

I bought this earlier this year, around March, from a fellow member/friend over at Collectors Universe (PCGS Forum). He has a PMG registry set of small-size $1 Silver Certificates and had upgraded to a 66EPQ. Without getting specific, I remember paying north of $700 for it. I really like the eye appeal of Silver Certificates and the blue seal and serial numbers. They gave it a nickname "Funny Back" because of the back design. I was told this nickname didn't come about till the late 50's early 60's, when the coin/currency dealers were describing the note to customers and other dealers.

Looks like everyone's been finding some good stuff lately! Particularly like the star notes and that 28* is a real beaut!

Coinfrog, my dad may very well have found the $5 N. Africa in circulation. I was thinking about why he hung on to it and it suddenly dawned on me and I don't know why I didn't think of this before. He was in the Navy and the Air National Guard and had a real interest in military history especially WWII. It was a total "Duh!" moment for me.

Here are some things I picked up today. Was wondering if the sequential 20s might be light green seals? From previous posts I gather it can be determined by the serials. Is that information available on the net anywhere?

Another raw note headed to PMG this fall. It has flawless paper, embossing and centering, but a faint counting bend on right margin - could go 58, but otherwise 66PQ. Bought at local auction for just over $100, so not much risk.
