Jimjumper Valued Member United States 331 Posts	Posted 04/08/2023 01:06 am The General was a train stolen by Union soldiers early in the Civil War and chased down by its Conductor, among others, aboard a sister train named the Texas. The Union soldiers that made the attempt were the first recipients of the Medal of Honor. I do a lecture on the whole story and have one of only 3 complete series/denomination sets of the Western and Atlantic change notes. My avatar is one of those notes. Report this Post to the Staff

This is kinda the best of both worlds for me! I believe it is a Medlar #23 issue date of May 5, 1841. Typical repaired cut-cancels, but all-in-all not too bad ! Report this Post to the Staff

I've been looking for a nice-looking $5 Educational the past year or so, and with the prices on AU and CU notes really going up I decided to target a VF-XF circulated note. My main criteria were that it be a clean note without heavy folds, and that it be in a comment-free holder. This one fit those criteria. What looks like a "3" in the lower right back margin appears under magnification to be a heavier thread in the paper, but I may be mistaken. Member of SPMC, FCCB, ANA and ANS. This past year I've bid on a couple AU examples on Heritage, only to see the bidding go quite a bit higher than I was willing to pay. I decided to lower my sights a bit and was pleased to see this one show up in a favored dealer's inventory.
