I personally prefer PMG over PCGS if I'm sending in raw notes, but both companies are great. If I'm buying currency already graded I just look past who graded it unless it's CGA, who tends to overgrade by a few points.

As a US bill collector I have also many graduated bills.
I tend to prefer slightly PCGS.
But I can well collect without this service.
I want to feel the notes, feel the fibers, hear the paper and smell the bills.
I have seen too often PPQ or EPQ, although the bills were washed.
I am quite skeptical about the graduation service.
If I lived in the United States, then I would usually buy bills without any graduation by money shows.
My graduation is the best for me.
It is a big problem that a lot of Large Size US Currency is washed, bleached and ironed.

Thanks, IGE. I'll post some more this coming week.

WheatBack, I basically agree, though I think CGA is usually high by just a point or sometimes two. I don't prefer CGA notes over PCGS and PMG, of course, but I always study them carefully if I can hold them in hand, such as at a show. I have cracked 3 CGA notes and had them successfully regraded at a single point lower. All were carefully chosen in the first place, to be sure, but I did very well price-wise even after fees and giving up a point.

By the way, WheatBack, what sort of grades are those Richmond $10s? Nice notes!

Interesting way to present things!

You are young - set your sights high, keep your focus narrowed, buy the best you can the first time, and don't just plug holes or wander around. Pick two or three series you love, study them, and build a true collection!

Just picked this up over the weekend. Not much to look at, but like nearly all stars from the 1928/1928A series (the Numericals), they're tough notes and seldom seen in any grade.

PS - For comparison, here's a non-star from the same series that's probably not worth much more!

I did pick up a Black Eagle 1899 note for $10. Good conditions and only 1 tiny tear.

Picked these up over the last few months. I really like the BEP's colorful printing...especially the backsides. The Philippine Islands were where the small size currency tests took place. The conversion from large size to small size occurred in the US a few years later in 1929.

Thanks, Westernsky - those are great notes, and the engraving is every bit as wonderful as on notes intended for use here.
