And Superdave - You definitely got a point there, suppose no harm in trying to make it a bit harder for them though

Absolutely. The point I'm making is that we need to be vigilant and stay vigilant. They're not going away.

Thanks, Well bear in mind that I try to use the cert link and get that response.
I think that somebody used this info and replicated slab labels for fake slabs this person bought.

Here is my story. These are not my coins.

I have been on a mini crusade helping others and hammering the seller of fakes.

Recently I wrote a buyer from wasminenowyours2012
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...VIP:feedback

Dear hghsierra,
Did you know your coin is a fake 1914 Gold $2.5 Quarter Eagle/PCGS (#170787977127) from wasminenowyours2012
Please read this coin forum string about this crook.

I got this response

Dear thenickelguy,
I bought 2 coins from him. One was a 1914 $2.50 gold AU58 in PCGS holder. Certification number checks out on PCGS website.

I HAVE NOT YET sent this email back to the buyer who thinks they have legit coins.

copy and past the cert number into the box in this link.
http://www.pcgs.com/cert/

I get response Not a valid cert number.

Even if you did get a valid coin response after entering the cert number, that does not mean that the slab you have has not been counterfieted as well as the coin inside. The thieves use reproduced slabs with crude labels. If you look at your bar code and compare it to other PCGS coins you may have in your collection or other legitimate ones you can see clearly on ebay, you can see that the bar code is a bit fuzzy.
I have alerted other ebay members who have bought similar items from wasminenowyours2012 and they have been completely reimbursed by Paypal and ebay. If you bought other items from this seller, I would think they are fake too.
I just can't believe that this seller has not become shut down on ebay to date.

I am just trying to help you, discourage sellers like this and help preserve the coin hobby as a whole.

looks like your coin but it was fake and that member got his money back.

Here is an interesting an informative read on the subject of fake slabs with fake coins inside labled PCGS and the like.
