Nice coin!
Are you putting together a lowball set?

I'm assembling a Carson City Morgan dollar date set, all in AG-3. The key date (1889-CC) is, of course, the easiest year to find in this grade. AG-3's are too high a grade for low-ball Morgan registry sets, those guys are looking for FR-2's and PO-1's...

Nice looking, original coin. Has that original grey color. Wonder how many saloons she's seen?

Good luck finding the 1885 CC Morgan.... its more rare in AG-3 than MS and will cost about the same.

This coin has character. Really nice. It could have been a pocket piece also.

Quote: I think it would go G4 No denticles left on either rim should be an automatic AG-3 (some denticles are still on the Photograde G-4 coin), also wear on tips of letters "E P" on obverse, "R I C A" and "A R". Check out this 1890-CC's reverse. It's a miracle. Denticles worn away evenly, but no tips of any letters worn off. This one, I could see being given a pass to G-4 (or at least a CAC sticker!) (which is why I bought another AG-3 1890-CC as a downgrade. )

I would say it is closer to 3 than 4. There is quite a range between the two examples posted by jeffrose. I'll call it a 3+.

Quote: Cali_Nick: Good luck finding the 1885 CC Morgan.... its more rare in AG-3 than MS and will cost about the same. Here's my 1882-CC, also far rarer than in AG-3 grade than MS. Total 1882-CC Morgan dollar mintage: 1,133,000 Total Uncirculated 1882-CC Morgans in the GSA inventory (1972): 605,029 Right there, 53.4% of the total 1882-CC Morgan mintage never entered circulation, and some may have been melted down for the Pittman Act in 1918. So, out of the 527,971 (or less!) 1882-CC Morgans that did get into circulation, now find one that wore all the way down to AG-3 before someone finally decided to save it. When we get to the 1885-CC Morgan, a whopping 148,285 of them were Uncirculated in GSA's inventory, out of the 228,000 total mintage. 65% of the 1885-CC Morgans ever minted never entered circulation!
