looking for world coins by the pound without paying $8-10 per lb on ebay (maybe 20-25 lbs @ $4-$5 per lb)

there are a couple of sellers on ebay offering this but niether will ship to canada (niether will even answer questions from international buyers so I cant even ask if they would ship to my US po box)

educational coins and blackmountain both have good stock but almost $10 per pound...

any other suggestions?

These are a good initial source for One From Every Country collectors. If you keep going back to the same dealer for more, duplication becomes increasingly common.
For this reason, you need to change dealers after two or three supplies, or try your luck on ebay.

After that, noodling at coin shows to buy individual coins can be considered; you can have a lot of fun, spending not much money. for this approach to be viable in not consuming time and car travel, it is best to have some sort or more of other sub collections going e.g. a dime set, ASE's or whatever.

I have been at World coins for over 30 years, and so poundage is no longer a viable option for me.

I've spent a lot of time looking for good sources of poundage, and I don't think you're likely to get the $5/lb price you're looking for online. 7-9 dollars a pound seems to be the norm on ebay for lots that show the coins in question. I've seen some big lots, in the neighborhood of 50 pounds, go for significantly less, but I am wary of them since they only have a stock photo. Maybe I'm paranoid, but what's to stop them from sending me a lot half made up of Canadian pennies, for example?

Do you have any coin dealers in your area? I've asked around and none of them around me deal in poundage, but I've seen plenty of posts from people who get good stuff at a local shop.

3 local shops within a 45 minute drive.

1 deals by the pound but the mix is consistantly common junk and I've pretty much picked him clean for varieties.

the other 2 are less than friendly. if you aren't there to buy $1,000s in silver they just dont want to talk to you. I asked about poundage and they point to the tray on the table and say "5 for a dollar". I tell them I want 20 pounds and they point to the tray and say "5 for a dollar".

i realize they aren't going to retire off my purchases, but still, I have a hard time spending my money in places like that.
