I have a worn and unevenly toned 6 Stuivers Kampen dated 1682 with a bundle of arrows counterstamp. Is this an official or private counterstamp and under what circumstances? Is it common or scarce?
I'm fairly sure that this has to do with Spanish rule in the Netherlands at that time. There was constant fighting and it may be that this counterstamp was to "legalise" currency in captured areas.
