A few days ago, I got a 1902 Indian head cent(in really nice condition) and a few wheat's in change from my local store. What is the oldest date coin you received in change in the last six months? Moved by Forum Mom from Classic US coins forum to Main Coin Forum.

Before the Australian changeover to decimal currency in 1966, we had pounds shillings and pence.
A friend of mine received an 1819 British silver shilling in change. At the time, the shilling had not been officially withdrawn from British circulation.
Australian coins of 1966 of all denominations still regularly circulate, except the .800 fine silver 50 cents.

Yes it is a real shame that we have absolutely no chance of finding any silver coins in our change, Even tho the florin, shilling and the sixpence are the same size as their 20,10 and 5 cent replacements.

I just got a 1946 nickel in change yesterday. A cashier friend of mine found a 1929 Merc a couple months ago.

When I was young, back in the 60s, I would get the odd Queen Victoria dime or Quarter. I could never tell what year they were as the date was always worn off. All I know for sure is that they had to be 1901 or older. As far as the last 6 months, I did get a 1938 penny that was in decent shape.

A 1914 Lincoln Cent in cruddy condition. My heart was skipping a beat to think it might be a Denver minted coin. Turned the 16x glass on it to make sure and it wasn't. Close but no cigar!

I am not sure if this it the oldest from change, but the most recent (last few years) is a 1944 quarter. I knew it was silver as soon as I got it, but I did not look at the date until I got home. I was sure it would be an early 1960's quarter at best. I was happy to see it was much older.
