Im still learning how to spot the date doubling easily...

As for the dash under the eight, is it always easy to see or can it be very small?

I believe this first coin is a VAM 5

(GSA#4318)

This second one is a VAM 4 not a VAM 5 because it dosent have the Die scratch Denticles on the reverse, near the bottom... I think

Quick response: I clearly see the dashes under both, if that affects your judgment of what "very small" is.

I assumed thats how the dashes appear, just nice to make sure :)

So these are VAM 5 and VAM 4 examples?

Hey Nick ,

Just incase you didnt have this for your referencing , on VW I study this thing atleast every other day (certain parts I need to keep refreshing on)

http://www.vamworld.com/Attribution+101

Shows everything you need to be able to attribute morgans easier .. VW has it all when it comes to VAMMING .. IMHO lol

Thanks Phil

yes I was on that site for a while Saturday... Looking for VAMs just feels so time consuming, and a bit subjective...

I just need to get myself organized maybe use a magnifying glass or take some bigger pictures to study what I have. My eyes are still getting tricked into seeing every date as doubled at first....

I had the exact same problem Cali_Nick, I would see everything I looked at as "doubling". After a long time of looking at them, it became easier with time. My suggestion is to buy a legit doubled coin for reference, its so much easier having one in person!
