So I have been keeping parts of my growing collection in double-rowed coin boxes for a while now, but I wonder about how the materials of the boxes may affect my coins. It seems that many of the boxes are mostly made of brown-ish cardboard (and brown paper is usually quite acidic). So is it possible that this material could give off some kind of acidic vapor that could affect my coins? Any thoughts?

Did you get your boxes from China? Knock off boxes;-) I think that anything you get from a reputable coin supplier will be acid free. If not you would see it posted here. Was there any documentation that came with the boxes?

Difficult to say since the description is vague. If you referring to those either Red or Black, two row boxes for 2x2's made and produced by Whitman Publishing, those ARE made for 2x2 flips containing coins. The insides are sort of Brownish in color. Many people have had coins in 2x2's in those boxes for years and no effect.
HOWEVER, if those are some sort of copies of those, just something from China, something for storage of something else, might not be a good place for coins.

I would advide that any fully RED copper coins are not stored in cardboard boxes ever, other than that I don't see any issue as long as the storage boxes were purchased from a reputable coin supply firm.

Cardboard does contain sulphur and can outgass turning red copper coins brown eventually, I have had this issue even with coins in slabs, not stored in cardboard, but I did have cardboard boxes in the same safe as the slabs, and I suspect that is the reason they changed color over the years.

Westcoin, I just bought red cardboard organizers that are made to store 2 x 2's from a coin supplier. I plan on putting those inside my safe were I also have slab coins. so, if I am reading your statement correctly by doing this it will damage my coins ?

The coins should be protected by the mylar 2 x 2's just be sure you have a good method of controlling the humidity, like a dessicant pack nearby the coins. Modern cardboard from coin suppliers should be acid free, though who really knows. I'm just saying Copper in original red color is hard to keep that way over decades, the big issues are humidity and high temperatures. Also you might want to check on them every few months if they are in a safe deposit box, just to re-affirm they are okay. I've had a few Red IHC change to full brown color in a a few years after moving from Denver to San Diego, that were stored in 2 x 2 mylar cardboard holders stapled and kept in a double row box of other coins.

I've had Copper and Silver coins in 2x2's stored in those Red and/or Black 2 row boxes made by Whitman for as long as they have been available. That is possibly for 20 or more years and no problems with any of the coins.
