Hi Folks
Have a question (s) concerning a 1923s Monroe Doctrine commemorative. I am thinking about purchasing this commemorative from someone I know. My question (s) are what condition do you think it is in an what the value maybe on it. The photo's show what looks like wear on the obverse and reverse of the commemorative is actually the reflection of the camera. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

Defiantly a polished circulated coin. I would go for one with a more natural look.

I suggest you pass on this one ... the coins surfaces do not seem original to me ... tend to agree with the statements above that this coin has been altered/polished/cleaned ... etc.

This is a common coin to find in the lovely USA silver classic commemorative series ... hold out for a no harm original.

Hoping that you stick around in our small family and show some nice coins.

I concur, AU and cleaned. However, I will also point out that it has an underrated reverse.

Thanks for the opinions. By cleaned I take it you are referring that it has been dipped. Not trying to start any arguments but wouldn't that remove what they call frost from the commemorative which is still present on most of the commemorative except on the bust on the obverse. I Don't see any hairline scratches or anything like that.

it could be a matter of the photo. If you are saying it is not cleaned- and you have the coin in hand- then that accounts for a little more than someone's opinion looking at a photo. that said, some of the guys who thought it was cleaned are very experienced with this coin.

In my experience, this particular commemorative tends to look, well... kind of ugly. If you found one that is clean of problems and not dingy from ugly toning... then good job.

Just trying to learn. It was in a 2x2 flip which may account for the wear on the bust. I compared this one to some on ebay and see some that have hairline scratches (which I assume to be from cleaning) and dings. This one does not have any scratches or dings that I can see, I am not saying it wasn't cleaned or altered in someway it just doesn't appear that way to me that's all maybe I am wrong.
