Hello everyone! I am new to CRH and would love any tips on where to get them, how to get them from the bank, and anything else that your genius minds have found out!? Thanks for everything in advance!

You should do what I did and go through all the threads on this forum, google as much information as you can, and gather what tips and bits of information you can get from multiple sources.

All the information is out there, just gotta look for it.

1. Got to bank and buy coins
2. Look through them for cool ones.
3. Return the coins you didnt keep for cash and buy new ones.

Rachums107's advice pretty much sums it up!

But one important thing to remember: After you are through searching what you picked up, always take them back to a different bank. This way you reduce your chances of getting those coins again, and the tellers will be much happier!

All good info so far. I would add that you should pick a denomination and focus on that, I search cent rolls. Then do some research and learn what a normal cent "should" look like so when you come across one that just doesn't look right you can look at it a little closer and see if you have an error or a variety or a PMD. As for cents I can give you a few web sites to check out if you like.

Never underestimate the value of customer wrapped rolls.

You will see a lot of discussion about ordering boxes; a lot of that discussion centers around on how difficult it is becoming to obtain them.

While finding customer wrapped rolls can be just as difficult, I have seldom met a teller who was not eager to rid their drawer of them (the exception being those who want to search them).

Great info guys thanks! And as for what rolls I will be searching, I'm leaning towards pennies or half dollars.. Oh and when I go to the bank do I ask for old rolls or something? Not sure how to ask for "the good stuff" :)

honestly sound as least picky as possible, it just takes time to get to the back of the vault ;)unless they regularly order halves (not likely) you will have to ask them to or otherwise just purchase what they have, if any.

The tellers should know enough to keep the silver and copper coins seperate. They sometimes put them on display so that they can engage powerplay between themselves and customer. Seriously, like others here have mentioned, take what they will offer...never ask specifically for "just the silver coins". The more you educate the tellers, the less you may find in rolls.

as fistfull put, I can say as a current bank teller. Every teller in my branch knows I buy boxes of coins to look for silver, and anytime they find one they give it to me because "there is no reason for us to keep just one coin" so it adds up for me. But keep it simple, for instance, and just walk in and ask- Do you happen to have any rolls of dimes or half dollars? (yes or no) Do you mind if I buy X amount from you? (yes or no) Thank you have a good day! (after receiving or just having to walk away) and if it becomes a regular place that allows you to and you become a regular then you may want to occasionally bring something small to them as a gesture of your appreciation. Then over an amount of time either they may bring it up or you can about just purchasing boxes at a time to make it easier on them. (But do get another bank to dump at)

i think wildspinx said it perfectly....and having my wife work in that field for so long, being a regular and the occasional gift, treat, etc will always work. I know that there were certain customers that came in and a line would suddenly open for them and close when they left. if you make their day better and rememberable, they will most likely do the same for you. look at it this way, are there any regular places you go (restaurant, store, bar) that they know you by name? If so, you know that you get better service as well.

Much like the mailman or desk clerk at the PO.

Most places have rules against anything worth enuf to be considered a bribe. An occasional dozen donuts or homemade cookies, or chokealot dipped pretzels, candy, etc. Something that can be shared looks above-board.

Gift cards seem iffy to me. Anything over ten bucks gets into that "bribe" range, not to mention cutting seriously into your profits unless you're finding lots of goodies.

Yep all good advice. I might also suggest have cash ready, even if its your own bank. "hello can I get a box of dimes please?" Remove 250$ from your wallet, easy transaction for the teller, if they ask, just tell them you collect. You will feel the vibe, and know if the branch is gonna be good or not. After a few trips to a good one, just ask for them to order for you, and you can build a relationship, also your not taking all their dimes...etc.. for their business customers. For halves it is rare for banks to get them regularly around here, its special order. Make sure you have 1000$ "coin hunting budget" for those. Every bank that orders them for me, is 1000$ minimum on halves.

Dont go in there on your first trip, and try to give them gift cards....lol. Iv done it twice, after about 1 month of them ordering me boxes they get one. I got Tim hortons cards for 20$ twice. I just told my tellers that order for me, here you go, thanks for the extra special service, I appreciate it, this is for you, if you want to bring some doughnuts in for the office one day, or use it yourself.
Just get out there, and hit banks, know what you want, have cash ready, and if you get rejected, no big deal move on to the next. Good luck
