The US Mint has released images of the actual President dollars for this year. The Washington dollar looks better in this picture than it did in the snapshot I saw that someone took recently at the "Hold a President Dollar" event. Here they are:

HHAHAHAHA! I'm sorry, but Washington looks like a zombie, Adams looks like an Oompaloompa, Jefferson has a bad haircut and Madison looks like he's in the middle of morphing into a dog.

Is it possible to subscribe with the U.S. Mint to buy these Presidential dollar coins and have them posted to Australia? Or can you only buy them if you live in America? Does anyone know? Thanks for any help.

Snooba, I can't answer your question, but I would be happy to work out something with you in order to see that you get the dollars.

That would be wonderful, Gary. What sort of coins would you like in exchange? We have the mint-mark dollar coins in their RAM folders. We have the 2007 coins, which I can get uncirculated from my coin dealer. I can get pre-decimals from my dealer. All sorts of things! You'll just have to tell me what you are interested in so that each time you send a Presidential dollar to me, you get something fair in exchange. Is that okay?

In response the Mint has not announced a time on their site for placing orders .

I have been checking the Mint site and nothing posted yet -they have the schedule to release the proof on 15 Feb but no way to order it yet.
as soon as things get posted someone here will be posing the info.

Wait and see until Jay Leno gets his hand on the new dollar.

Deside, it does not matter how it looks when it just come out from the mint. It matters when it quickly goes into "toning" process.

Did any of those guys ever smile? Every portrait of any of them always looks like they were sitting on a tack or something.

Those have to be the ugliest coins I have ever seen. I agree with Big Time's description. Madison, is really disturbing to look at.

Congratulations to the US mint for producing the ugliest dollars to date. Just think, people thought the SBA wasn't that great. The Presidental dollars make SBA look like a Picasso.

Here is the "snapshot" picure I was referring to at the start of this thread:
President-Dollar-Coin-Images-Released
I think the Washington obverse looks better in the new US Mint picture than it does in the picture above.

Sculpting portraits is difficult, especially in bas relief at this size. And front-on portraits are much harder than profiles. I would probably have done things differently - every sculptor is different. In fact, here are the ones I did:

I wouldn't say mine are perfect (or better than the Mint's) - they're just different.

Yours are far better, dcarr, but I must say that your Washington is rather Sphinx-like.
