I've been collecting coins for about 30 years off and on, and recently started to get more serious about it but have almost no experience in identifying & valuing coins with one-off type errors. This coin appears to have a lamination error across the neck.

1st Question - Is this a lamination error?
2nd Question - Is there any standard pricing information on lamination errors, Cud errors, offset strikes, etc. If there are no standard resources for these types of errors, is there any basic formula anyone would suggest (like add 20% for a lamination error)?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

It is not a lamination, just a big scratch. There really is no standard pricing for errors since they can be so variable in visibility and availability for certain years/denominations. The vast majority of laminations carry no premium and will even devalue a coin since it can be a big distraction to eye appeal. However, large delamination peels do tend to carry a premium, especially when the peel is still attached.

Disc,

Keep in mind when placing any URL within a posted CCF comment, the URL always has the risk of becoming a dead link in the future.

If, for example, this URL below is moved, renamed, or discontinued by the origin server; any interested person browsing on this URL will most likely become disappointed if this occurs.

Although I am placing this URL,

http://www.bestcoin.com/us-mint-err...-prices.htm,

as a guide to answer your question, I would suggest adding this site to your favorites if it will be referenced going forward.

In this economy, however, my best and most reliable base advice on CUD/lamination error pricing is that a good price is one in which the seller is lucky enough to receive an offer where money is not lost on the initial purchase.

I personally am hesitant to 'purchase' these type of coins but rather focus my efforts instead on relying upon lady luck when searching.

IMHO

mdpmedia: your link has a comma on the end.

Disc,

By trial and error I have put together some suggestions to save CCF members some time when composing a new post or a response to a post:

1) Always check on one's post in the ‘Active' CCF forum section for accuracy 'immediately' after posting it.

2) If one wants the posted URL (or related picture) to live in perpetuity within any CCF thread, make a screen shot of it and attach it similar to what I have done here below:

1908-Indian-Lam-Error?

Performing this step obviously prevents any updates or deletions to occur to this URL which has now been embedded into the attached static .jpg or .bmp file etc.

3) When uploading any file to a CCF thread it is unnecessary to click on the Browse button. Just first click on the empty box where the red arrow is pointing to below and your choices for upload will quickly appear:

1908-Indian-Lam-Error?

Once the file is chosen, then click on 'Upload File to Disc Golf King's Post', for example.

This is just a neat little shortcut.

4) NEVER compose one's CCF response message (or any thread message for that matter) directly within a live CCF text dialog box.

To avoid the risk of losing a lengthy typed message as a result of an unexpected browser or Internet glitch ALWAYS first type the message within a WORD document, for example.

One can subsequently copy and paste the WORD doc-created verbiage over to a CCF text box for later upload to the live thread.

5) Always take ANY price guide with a grain of salt unless it has been created by a very reputable organization edited by 'multiple' industry-recognized authors.

IMO,

mdpmedia

PS: The originally-referenced URL without an ending comma ',' is as follows:

http://www.bestcoin.com/us-mint-err...n-prices.htm

I hope it properly opens up this time.

With Biokemist6--it's a scratch into the surface of Liberty.
A lamination would be a darker layer of impurities that would cross Liberty's neck into the field.
