Does anyone here buy or has bought straps of uncirculated notes from a Canadian bank branch without paying a fee. I know RBC charges a fee for it. What about other banks, how much do they charge ?
Any help is appreciated.

I don't know about Canada, but anybody should be able to pick up a new strap of crisp notes just by asking nicely! Why in the world would a bank charge a fee? (Not trying being sarcastic)

I dont think their will be a fee. Never got charged one for coins. Just ask nicely and you should be good.

It is hit and miss, depending on the people at the individual bank branches. A couple of BMO branches I know waive the charge, if you are nice enough to them. I bring my bank people Starbucks lattes, and they give me all the cool stuff and silver that comes in...

Ive never thought of getting UNC straps. I bank with TD I have tried to sweet talk all the tellers at every branch and thought I was doing well. I was thinking of maybe starting a second account at either BMO or RBC. I swear the average population of the city I work in is 70. Go to each branch of my bank once a week, and ask for 50c pieces, dollars, or old notes. Sometimes I even ask if anyone has emptied their piggy bank and deposited some juicy rolls. I feel bad picking their brains when its busy. If I could get straps of each domination I would be all over it. How many bills in a strap?

Thanks all, I will try again, but this time, at my new RBC branch and see if they can let me have a strap without making me pay a fee.
loonietoon: There are 100 notes in a strap.

Alright, here is a little update. I have been to my new RBC branch and asked for a strap of UNC 5$. They said that they did not hold any. They only had circulated notes. Then, I went to my BMO branch and they told me the same thing. Seems to be difficult to get your hands on UNC notes where I live. Could it be because the last time 5$ notes were printed was too long ago, in 2010, and that no new stock comes in because of that?
Anyone else would like to share their experience?

Baanos, you might try the main branch rather than the community branch for a strap of uncs.

I have gone to CIBC and asked if they could order in Unc. bundles, and they told me the "fee" for all the paper work was going to be $25. (I can't remember if it was $25 or $35. Either way, I wasn't paying it)
Here is some random info. about the names of notes that have been "strapped" together. 100 Notes = Bundle 1000 Notes = Brick 4000 Notes = Block
Usually when I go to the bank, I will get bundles of $5's that they have sitting around the bank which are usually circulated. However, I have received Unc. notes quite a few times without any fees (because they were already at the bank, I guess).

Canadian-Banknotes:
I was quoted a similar fee some time ago at an RBC branch. I'm curious, where did you get that info on the different names for notes which were strapped together ? It leads me to think that us Canadians might not be using the same terminology as Americans. This is the terminology they use(on the BEP website):
100 Notes = 1 Strap 10 Straps = 1 Bundle (1,000 bills) 4 Bundles = 1 Brick (4,000 bills) 4 Bricks = 1 Cash-pack (16,000 bills) 40 Cash packs = 1 Skid (640,000 bills)
What do you think ?

Thanks for the info, I will try the main RBC branch here in Montreal when I get the chance.

Yeah they look to be almost the same. I had 500 down for a brick originally, but it is actually 1,000 notes. I guess I wasn't thinking straight.
The numbers of notes are the same, but the terminology is a little different.

Here's a follow-up on my case. I went to the main RBC branch in Montreal today and I asked for a strap of UNC 10$. They checked and they did not have that, so I took 100 circulated 10 dollar notes instead. I was also told that if I wanted a strap of uncirculated notes, I would need to place an order and it would run me 11$ extra.
Next time, I'll take as many 50 dollar notes as I can afford since they have them brand new.

So now that you have all those $10 notes, are you going to search for BTT and BTU error notes printed on the wrong banknote paper ? They will have the queen as the watermark rather than John .A MacDonald.

I have searched thousands of $10's and have never found one, personally.

Actually I was looking for fancy serials and errors. I was not aware of that specific error, thanks for the tip. I checked them all and nothing.
