When were/ what were the parameters for exchanging silver certificate notes into/in exchange for, U.S. silver dollars?

What were the exact dates? anyone know?

I know that in mid 65 you could walk into a bank, hand them a silver certificate and they would give you a silver Morgan or Peace dollar. What were the exact dates for this particular exchange?, when did it start? and end?

regards, m

I believe that you are reffering to Executive Order 11110.

Not sure how reliable this is, but this date keeps popping up;

"In 1964, the US government discontinued the exchange of Silver Certificates for silver dollars, but redemption for bullion continued for another four years. On June 24, 1968, the government ended the silver exchange completely and bearers of the Silver Certificates could only exchange them for Federal Reserve Notes. In the 1970s, most of the remaining silver dollars in the US treasury were sold to the public at collector values."

"... redemption for bullion continued for another four years ..."

Little bags of silver nuggets.
People stood in long lines.
Fists full of the certificates.

For a decade afterward, these little baggies were sold along with a silver certificate, no longer redeemable for silver, and a "CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY."

Those were the days.

Nothing has changed.

A dollar got you $1.29 worth of silver.

Maybe times HAVE changed!
