yep, but not enuf to justify time and mileage, unless you wanna be one of those obnoxious types who shows up two hours early with an excuse why you should get first shot.

I'm going to start going to yard sales to "flip" items, and while I'm there I'm going to look for coins, but I doubt I'll ever come across anything.

I go to many garage sales and ask for coins. I get a bit of stuff but never anything overly fantastic. I find as soon as I ask if they have any coins most people immediately think what they have is rare and I must be trying to rip them off. Its very frustrating. Weekend junk markets are more fruitful I find.
Rest in Peace

I got a decent Coleman propane lantern once.

I don't think I've ever seen a coin at a yard sale.

As noted you have to ASK. Most people go to garage/yard/estate sales and if they don't see coins, they just leave. You have to ASK. And even then, if the sellers are alone, they seldom will leave all their stuff to get you coins. Some may say come back later when someone else is here with me. But you have to ASK.
One of my two greatest finds in coins came from a garage/yard sale. I asked about any coins. Not just old ones but just coins. She went inside and came out with a jar of pennies. The bottom was full of Indian Head cents. She said it was something her now deceased husband had stored away. It was supposed to be taken to a bank soon. She wanted me to sit down and count them out but instead I offered $50 and she accepted. At home I counted out about $35 worth in face. The newest coin was in the 50's and many, many in fantastic shape as far back as the 1877 Indian cent which was in there too.
You have to ASK.

I've picked up a few uncirculated coins from folks at garage sales at decent prices but that's about it. I am guilty of trying to not get caught eyeballing the change in their box though....

My best friend searches out all yard - garage and estate sales, in the past twenty years he has purcahsed almost a solid pound of gold (mostly jewlery, and charms) for a mere pittance of it's real value, he has almost 4 plastic hobby tins full now. most 10k and 14k stuff. He purchased a half ounce 14k necklace once for $20.00 - so yes, persistance can pay off.
