Hi !

I'm from Canada and I look to collect coin from Australia.

I have the idea to collect the first coin of each design.

I have take a look to http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed /countries/Australia.php

I have some interogation about the listing.

For the 6 pence

The site list a design for ( picture km52 )1953-1954 and a another one for ( picture KM58) 1953-1963

I check the picture and I don't see a difference, does it really have one ?

I will continu to check my list later.

Thanks !

QE2's Australian coins originally had the obverse legend without "F.D." - but only for 2 years.
"F.D." was restored in 1955.
Not much difference in a small photograph.
There are plenty of Aussies here to answer your questions.

If you wish to avoid the cost of getting an Australian coin catalogue that is the equivalwnt of Charlton's at this stage, keep firing questions at us. I have a VERY old Charltons.

Actually, my Canadian collection is about the same size as my Australian pre decimal collection, at around 50 pieces. Includes most types of silver dollars and 50 cents to 1967, a 1913 gold $10, and a complete type set of base metal nickels. Interesting coins!

Thw only thing I can find wrong is the half penny and it is only a minor error regarding dates. The 1938 does not have a kangaroo reverse. The 1939 has both the old reverse and new kangaroo reverse. The kangaroo reverse is much scarcer.

yves: Do you wish to know the type details for the Sixpence, Shilling Florin and Crown aw well?

Then of course, there are the Australian minted gold (Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns British Imperial types) coins as well. The only distinctive Australian gold type coins are the Sydney Mint Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns and the Adelaide Pound which are quite expensive.

You can get all the type information from this site:
http://www.bluesheet.com.au/Austral...lth_Coinage/

You can navigate through the types by clicking the pictures and listings of all dates/types in each category and estimates of their value in average circulated (or in Sheldon grades with a subscription).

1911-1936 = 1911-1939: Not correct.
1911-1936 applies to the obverse design (George V), and
1911-1939 applies the the reverse design of Half pennies.

1938-1944 = 1939-1944: Should be1938-1964.
1938 is the first of the new reverse design for pennies threepences shillings and florins, 1939 is the first year of the new reverse design for the half penny.

The 1939 half penny had two different reverse designs for thst year, the kangaroo reverse for that year is the rarest.

All reverse designs for all coins continued until 1964, when the last pre dedimal coin was issued.
The Crown was only issued for two years, in 1937 and 1938.

1949-1952 Observe : Georges VI No IND:IMP Reverse : Kangaroo
1953-1955 Observe : Queen Reverse : Kangaroo
1959-1964 Observe : Queen Reverse : Kangaroo Difference with 1953-1955 is the little mark on the reverse side ?
