Patrick, make sure you return the searched coin to a different bank (open a second account is always good) or at least deposit to a different branch.

I was told a couple of years ago by my bank "NOT" to put them in rolls...... they said they just have to open them anyway to count them and besides that they dump them in a machine counter for an exact count. This was pennies, nickles, quarters. Has anyone run into that ? You know, I think it's a lot easier just to take a bag or container in and let them dump it in the machine and then hand me my money. Of course I've never roll hunted in the amounts that you guys are doing...... might start though

$70 in halves yielded just one good one- 40% silver 1967, but in XF-AU shaped. The teller said they had been looked through, but she missed that one. I guess I have competition for half dolalr searching.
I'm off to the bank again today- one branch I called has $220 waiting for me. I'll post what I find later.

I typically keep nicer condition halves to make sets, and tougher dates, like 78, 79, 82.

I have yet to deposit any halves back to the bank. I bring rolls or loose ones with me everywhere I go and spend them as cash for gas, restaurant tips, small grocery purchases, etc. I'm doing my part to put these back into circulation!

UPDATE:

The $220 in halves yielded 10 40% silver (3 in one great roll) plus 1 90%. A few of the clad coins had marker on them as if they had been searched already, but the marked coins were few in number (maybe 5) and confined to one roll.

I keep track of every date and mint mark on halves because I've have learned that some dates are very, very tough, and have been trying to put sets together. It is very hard to do! I still have not gotten a single 79D and some of the mid 80s are tough. I plan to start a thread on this shortly with the numbers for every single coin and perhaps a few other Half roll hunters could do this on their $500-1000 boxes.

$380 JFK halves
15 40% silver
1 90% silver

With todays paycheck I decided to purchase $40.00 worth of dimes in rolls from the bank ! Never done this before ! I've only ever taken pocket change in there accumulated for a year or so. Now, I have no expectations, but I am getting excited to search for a Merc or at least a silver one pre 64'. I asked for .50 cent pieces and they said they don't have any except $17.00 worth of loose ones and the teller said he'd already looked through them for silver ones and there weren't any ! He's a coin collector too darn it ! This bank is a small branch off of the main bank on the other side of town........might have to go there to inquire about the 50's

Just did $265 in halves today ($260 in rolls, $5 loose). I hit the jackpot! Two rolls were solid 40% silver rolls. I couldn't believe it. Scored 47 total 40% silver in this group. This one really skews my totals, but hey, I'm not complaining!

In last two days I did 38 dollars worth fed wrap cent rolls, 14 dollars worth of nickels. This what I found on nickels, 1954, 1958 denver nickels, One 1939 no mint mark. One bu 1982 nickel , The rest were common date 1960 thru 72 junk I saved . I kept maybe one roll of nickels out that lot. 40 nickels I saved for my collection out the 14 dollars.

On fed wraps of pennys. Highlights were an 1920 s and 1921s pennys. Maybe 10 wheats totol all were 1940 something philly coins aslong with serval 1950 something stuff. Nothing special becides the 1920 and 1921.

I did get maybe 7 bucks worth 59 thru 81 copper rolls, 3 2007 denver bu rolls. I saved all bu coins from 1983 thru 2007 to build rolls later. Maybe 5 to 10 bucks worth. I dont know. That batch of pennys was flooded with lots 2007 , 2006 bu coins . I went thru 3800 pennys totol.

Bank upset me after I cashed in 18.62 worth pennys in coin machice. I asked for 18.50 worth cents . Bank teller was lazy and did not go vault to get me pennys. He gives me 14 dollars worth nickels , 3 dollars in pennys 1 1998 d junk half dollar, two brand new utah quarters.

What an waste of time tonight doing those nickels. I needed pennys to find an 1982 small dates , 1968 s to finish my books. The bank teller messed up my plan on trying to finish my sets for x-mas gifts. I need 5 1941 thru 2007 pennys books complete to give out as x-mas gifhts to my freinds and family this year. In that 3 dollars worth rolls I did find that 21 s cent.

I dont know how I am going complete those 5 foldors if I cant find those 1968s, 1972s, both 1982 small dates for each set. I am short big time and need them fast big time. I been working so hard to try finish those 5 sets. I been working for over two monlths on my sets and it seems I am stuck big time on this one.

I hope I can find those coins I need where I dont mess up x-mas this year or whatever. It has me in bind big time not having those cents.

I am new to this board but not CRHing. I have been hunting in banks for one year and have done pretty good.

My best finds are a Barber half, 1886 Morgan dollar and silver round. (teller had a ziplock baggie of "big dollars")

I mostly hunt full boxes of halves from my banks. I have 4 bags of coin held for me right now at two different banks. I know two will be halves and think the others are cents.

I had one of my best cent hunts ever last week. I did $65 worth and was finding an average number of wheaties, nothing special. Then I found a few rolls that looked different from the rest. I think someone had wrapped up grandpas old jar of pennies. In 3 rolls I found 13 wheaties, including 5 steal '43s (one D, one S, 3 others), a 1911 and 1935. The rest were nothing special, but that was the first time I'd ever found '43s in circulation, good times!

Slowly but surely,

Two weeks ago I found two 1943 steel cents stuck to magnets inside the coin machine at bank. They were rejected and stuck to magnets. Those machines like coin star dont take those 1943 steel cents. I thought it cool to find those before I dumped 50 dollars worth of searched in there to be cashed in for fresh boxs. Those were first I seen in years .

Got $100 of havles through my dad who was up in Vermont and checked the bank... no silver or anything of interest besides this 1973D with strong doubling I found... pretty cool! Anyone have an estimate of what it is worth?

Congratulation on your find.

I don't think it's Hub Doubling (which make it worth more)... and more like a " Strike Doubling"; but I can be wrong. Post your picture in the Errors section for better respond.

Good luck hunting.
