Hello friends and family, I held on to this one for sometime now and was wondering how in the world did it get damaged. On the Obverse top of the head 3 holes and just below on his face a big S and to the bottom just under his neck 3 holes. My Question is, what on earth happened ? was this coin supposed to be destroyed by the government ? or something did it intentionally. And is it Russian

Thanks for the identification of the coin, But is it supposed to look like this and is this an error or mint damage or was it someone that just damaged it.

I would GUESS the counterstamp was done outside the mint. There have been instances of governments marking a coin to make it a new denomination. I have no idea if any contemporary Greek coin was revalued this way...

my opinion is that it is PMD, and might have been a politically-motivated statement directed at the King's effigy.

Thanks amida17, Peter and Thai. Makes sense after reading your post on Wiki Peter, But I'm still scratching my head here thinking it could be just what Thai said.
