Just getting into roll hunting and I don't really have a good plan or idea how to get my hands on coin rolls. What works, don't work, what should I try, not try? Any advice is appreciated, Thanks!

I obviously have asked a question that has been asked many times before on here, sorry for my ignorance. I have read a lot of good info on other posts so thank you everyone who has posted on other threads covering this topic.

First of all, , Ozzy! Second, the best way to roll hunt is to go to your local bank and ask for rolls of halfs, quarters, dimes, nickels, or pennies (whatever you feel like) and look through the roll(s) and pick out silver, errors, proofs, coins you need for your collection, or anything else! Good luck!

Welcome Ozzy. My best advice would be to never return your coins to the same bank that you picked up at. Even if your bank agrees to it, chances are you will get the same coins back in the near future.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

ozzy8979 from an Aussie: Rule 1: Be very nice to the tellers!
I used to do roll hunting during Australian pre decimal days as a kid. At least I learned that much!

Treat the tellers and manager well. If you make them happy they will remember you when something collectable comes through their drawers. Also find out if your bank will order rolls or boxes of rolls for you. Some will, some won't.

You could see if the bank sells the bags from the counting machines. Some banks will sell them, some won't. If they do sell them, just ask what days the carriers usually picks them up and beat the carrier there. I picked up nine fifty dollars bags just last week of cents and two bags each of dimes and nickels. Seems to work for everyone. They don't have to pay for the carrier to pick up the change and I don't have to worry about the amount of coin that the banks holds for customers.
Usually banks around here do not order a lot of change. Just the amount required for normal business. I would pick up no more than one box per bank per week. Shipping change to and from the bank gets expensive. I try to spread around the pickups and dumps at several.
If you can, find two different banks that use different carriers. This way you are using one carrier to pick up from and another to dump.
The web is your friend. There are a multitude of websites to use for reference. Research should indicate the difference between good stuff and junk. Or post pictures on this site.
Persistence pays off. Don't give up after the first box.
OH, and I about forgot, WELCOME!!!
Still Lookin
