I am completely out of my element with this one.
I am not even sure I photographed it in the right
orientation.
Any assistance that can be given in identifying this would
be greatly appreciated

It looks to be a plated or dipped copy of possibly a Portuguese Moidore. I'm basing that on the use of that particular type of cross (Cross Patee, I believe) but other countries also used it or variations.

It is a modern replica of a Spanish colonial 8 reales.
@alganbagerap: the castles of Castilia and the lions of Leon around the cross are pointing to Spain instead of Portugal...

Yes, it seems to be a very commonly encountered replica. Do a forum search for "1736 replica Spanish" and you'll find a bunch more, like this one. These replicas are sold at numerous "pirate-themed" tourist traps, including Disneyland.
