Received this coin as change in South Africa, I'm sure by accident.
Just wondering can anybody enlighten me? It's about 16.8g in weight.

Thanks in advance...

JC!

Your coin looks like a cast fake of a Spanish Charles III 8 reale.

I have a cast fake of this type as well that weighs over 21grams. Unfortunately, fakes of this coin are fairly common.

Here is mine, notice that coin is concave and clearly shows the casting seam on the edges.

Regards,

-Kurt

Here is an example of what an authentic coin of this type should look like.

Colonialjohn,

I am not sure who you are talking too or what violation has taken place.

"No commerce is allowed with new members"

Could you explain what you mean please?

regards,

Biancasdad, colonialjohn didn't say that. The red colour means that his post has been edited by a moderator, who is pointing out that colonialjohn violated the rules in what he posted.

Hi James and

I would be very interested in seeing a picture of your coin. If you could post it and give the size and weight, we could tell you if it is authentic or fake.
