Well, this is clearly a doubled die. Even in this late die state, there is clearly strong notching in both S in STATES, EPU and the stars. But I'm not finding information on DDRs for 1971-P. Anybody know this one?

It might be DDR-002. This one at heritage looks pretty close, but I'm not sure it's the exact one or just one that's very similar. It's the only image I've been able to find of that variety. (This is the heritage image cropped the same to compare) The spread on mine looks slightly bigger, but that may be a trick of the lighting and/or die state.

The more I look at this, the less of a match it appears for DDR-002. The spread on the stars on my coin is definitely larger.
Any Ike fans care to provide a little guidance? The big book is on my birthday wishlist...

Hopefully Stewart will see this and provide his expert opinion. If you want, add a reply to the Post An Ike ( Eisenhower dollar) thread with a link to this one. I know he will see it then.

Nice! It is definitely an interesting find and I love learning about them. Everyone knows that I love the Eisenhower dollar, but I am clueless for most of the varieties (that is, beyond the 1972 and 1976).

OK, still no dice on this guy. I was going to send it to the Ike Group guys, but never got around to, and for various reasons I can't do it right now. But I can provide much better images. Click through to the full-res version on Flickr which clearly shows the doubling and probably any die markers. 1971 Eisenhower dollar DDR by CaptainFwiffo, on Flickr
